| OPINION / FIKRAD – by Mahamud Hagi Elmi Amin (Qooje) - Few people have died in the massacre at the National Theater, and many were injured including the Lashin, Ahmadey Abdi Gashan. Gashan composed unforgettable concerts such as the 15kii Shumey, Lula and Laila, and more. He is a national hero who has contributed our entertainment, our music, and our culture. He devoted his life not only entertain, but also to instruct and shape our culture with his amazing poems, plays, and concerts.
Over the past twenty years, there have been people who have lived in the government and individual properties. It was difficult for the past and present government to move these people out of their properties. Even the Wadaad had a difficult time convincing these people, but it was easy for Gashan, because of his talent with which he created an amazing play called, Dardaaran Waayeel, that he wrote with other composers. This well written play featuring impeccable performances conveyed a powerful message for these people.
The play reached out to them and captured their hearts. After two weeks the people moved out in the government properties, which they have been residing in for over twenty years voluntarily. Was the play louder than the bombs? Perhaps it was. Allah created us, but there are men and women who shape us. They shape our education, music, culture, and also fight for our liberty. These people are our heroes, therefore; we, Somalian should not forget nor neglect them. Ahmadey Abdi Gashan was in Madina Hospital for a several weeks with a catastrophic injury from the massacre that happened at the National Theater on April 4th, 2012.
He was not getting the proper medical attention and the, Somali government ignored him. The minister of health and the minister of information visited him when he was in Madina Hospital. They gave him smile, nothing else. The play was on the, Somali National Television, and the, Somali government enjoyed watching it, knowing Gashan at that time.
Now the Somali government fails to provide proper medical care for Gashan, this is a pathetic behavior. We Somalian have had a hard time for over twenty years, and still, we don’t have a clue of what is going wrong. Although each one of us has his or her polygon about what went wrong for the past twenty years, the solid polygon is that, we, Somalian have neglected our heroes. As, Somalian, we owe our heroes by consuming their products, but we don’t talk about them, support them, or even realize how important they are to us. Most of us give priority to our tribes first. At this time move the tribes away and learn to care more about our heroes. Most, people are busy talking about whom the next president on August, 2012, will be, but we, Somalian, also need to know and recognize our heroes.
The electronic Somali media flows wherever the wind blows. I would like to ask the media to hold their horses and give time to support, Ahamadey Abdi Gashan. Now is the time for action. I would like to ask the, Hawalah to open a donation account on behalf of Gashan’s name, so it will be easier for everyone to donate funds. Many people are running to become the next president of Somalia. Each one of them has his or her own particular interest. Please direct your political interests to our heroes if you have one.
I would wish for Ahmadey Abdi Gashab a quick recovery and ask each and every one of us to support him.
