Farmaajo should become the next President of Somalia

Farmajo should become the next president of Somalia. I think Farmajo would be a good president because he has already acquired a lot of political experiences during the short period he held the premiership. He now knows well the key players of Somali affairs both inside and outside and he can build a worker relationship with them. He can also avoid some of the adventures he conducted during his term in office as Prime Minister. He is well equipped to leadSomaliain the future.

Back ground: I wrote an article in supporting Sheikh Sharif Ahmed to become the president ofSomalia. I was one of those who strongly advocated that sheikh Sharif deserves to be the next president ofSomalia mainly because of his work during the Union of Islamic Courts. I knew that he did not possess a good experience in politics but I thought he had a genuine vision to find a solution for Somali crisis. I also thought that he had ability to bring together various interest groups and could lead the Somali people to peace and prosperity.

Unfortunately I was wrong and Sheikh Sharif dashes all of our hopes because he became any another Somali corrupt politicians that preceded him. After he became to power he was more interested in filling his empty pockets rather assisting the Somali people. He immediate commenced looting the property of the society and nepotism. He could not even bring together the religious groups which he was a member let alone bring together all Somalis. He was hunger to traveling and people started calling him FUUSHANE. He also joined the footsteps of his predecessor to go toAddis AbabaorKampalato obtain for his assignments.

During the short period, Farmajo was in charge in the premiership office, he demonstrated good leadership and competency. He met with various group of civil societies and religious groups. He explained his agenda. He showed the ordinary people that he is one of them. He had an open door policy which all citizens are welcome in his office.  He broadcasted his ministerial meeting and clear articulated where he want to take the country.

He did not go to Addis-Ababa or Kampala to acquire an assignment but he had working relationship with the presidents these capitals. He had a vision but unfortunately the people whom he worked with him such as the president (Sheikh Sharif)and Head of the parliament (Sharif Hassan) saw him threat to their interest as well as dangerous to their agenda. Sadly Farmajo did not forecast or anticipate their trap and he feel on it. Finally they rid off him.

Now Farmajo is well known person both inside and outside Somalia. He showed completely different style governing. He must build a good network well know individuals who could assist him in becoming the next president of Somalia. He already possesses some kind of political experience that will assist him in maneuvering the Somali political mines. He must also forward clear, concise and well defined platform where he wants to take Somalia. He must demonstrate that his future goals are to build a political system that rewards competence and experience rather nepotism and favoritism.

Finely, Farmajo already knows the local political players and must continue to have connections with them. During his recent visit of other parts of the world where Somalis live and he explained his ideas where he wants Somalia to be in the coming decade and a lot of people were satisfied. Leadership is not individual thing, it is collective thing. He must prepare his own people who share his views and ideas and believes. So that they can work as team and decide as team.  This is the kind of leadership people need. We don’t need similar to the current government leaders such as the President and Prime Minister whose main purpose is to fill their empty pockets and not care about the plight of their people.
