MUDULOOD: NEW MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT
The list was rejected by Mahiga and the international community, the Somali Group, the US, EU, UK and Turkey.
OPINION | The Mudulood Community wanted a parliament free of corrupt officials, warlords, remnants from old regimes Islamic radicals in order to have a reasonable government in Somalia in anticipation of a more stable and predictable government in the country.
However, there were many options available to follow when forming the parliament but failed and we are back to square one.
Mudulood strongly believes that, the following:
-
The parliamentary selection process, which has been concluded except in little inter-clan discord, most notably Mudulood has been marred by large-scale and systematic bribery, nepotism and intimidation.
-
The current Constituent Assembly was chosen under dubious conditions and the parliamentary seats are being distributed to the highest bidders.
-
The technical committee charged with ratification from lists of members of parliament chosen by their traditional leaders was not based on 4.5 the Somali Clan Formula.
-
There was no mechanisms for accountability have been put in place to try to minimize spoilers’ involvement, warlords, alleged TFG corrupt officials, Radical Islamists, remnants from old regimes (i.e., revolutionary era, TNG and the dysfunctional TFG), the involvement 135 traditional leaders when the country has only 55 known traditional leaders, the number of women members of parliament is below the constitutional requirement of 30% and 1/3 of the parliamentary members chosen by their traditional leaders can’t read and write to fulfill the conditions required to become a member of Somali parliament.
-
The process has become entirely corrupted due to the members selected from Hawiye Haber-Gedir and Murusade, Dir, Digil and Mirifle. The only selected and appointed members of parliament worth of commendations are from Puntland, Hawadle and Dhulmahante. There is an Arbitration Committee to decide on disputed parliament case to correct injustices.
-
The international communities, the Somali Group, the US, EU, UK, And Turkey and UN Envoy to Somalia, without any compelling reasons were fixated on procedures and deadlines, seemingly oblivious of the serious strain that the frenetic pace was having on the entire process.
-
Sheikh Sharif Ahmed, constantly attacked on Prime Minister Abdi-weli Mohamed Ali “Gass” and Abdirahman Hosh, minister for constitutional affairs after most of his Alle-Sheikh group were disqualified and blamed them for the mess due to their clannish attitude and ignorance while at the same time claiming that, Ambassador Mahiga UN Envoy to Somalia was helping them.
Given the above, Mudulood after various consultations came up its own proposed list of members of parliament in the best interest of its people and the country. Thus, Mudulood kindly requests the international community, the Somali Group, the US, EU, UK, and Turkey and UN Envoy, Ambassador Augustine Mahiga to accept the following list.
Proposed List of Mudulood Members of Parliament:
Hart-Abgal:
-
Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed
