Somali president will not attend upcoming United Nations meetings

SABAHI | Friday, September 21, 2012 | President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said Tuesday (September 18th) that he will not attend the upcoming 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported.

Mohamud will remain in Mogadishu, attributing his absence to “tough tasks in his in-tray”. He did not say whether a representative from his government would attend in his stead.

The UN meetings include a high-level meeting on the rule of law on September 24th and a special session on Somalia on September 26th.

The president also announced he will soon appoint a new prime minister.
