Three injured in Eastleigh gun attack

Standard Degital | Wednesday, December 26, 2012 | Three people including a police officer were on Tuesday night shot and wounded in a shooting incident in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area.

Police say one of the victims is a suspected thug who managed to escape on foot. The incident happened at a miraa den when three gunmen came looking for a certain but man failed to get him .

When they were informed the person they wanted was not there, they opened fire and injured one person.

According to Nairobi Area police boss Moses Ombati, police who were on patrol in the area heard the gunshots and rushed to the scene only to be met with gunshots which injured one of them but they hit back injuring one gunman.\

“The gang’s intention was to kill a man they wanted at the miraa den but shot and wounded another one on learning that the one they wanted was not there,” said Ombati.

The injured officer and the first victim are in hospital in a stable condition. Police are looking for the injured gunman.

Police believe the injured gunman is seeking medical attention in a hospital in the city and have urged operators to report to them any such case.

Ombati said the city did not report any major criminal activities and attributed it to his officers’ vigilance who were deployed in most parts of the city.
