Iran on Thursday expressed its willingness to strengthen its relations with Ethiopia in various fields.
“Iran is keen to further intensify its existing relations with Ethiopia,” Iranian Ambassador to Ethiopia Ali Bahreini was quoted as saying by Dina Mufti, spokesman for Ethiopia’s Foreign Ministry, following a meeting with Ethiopian Foreign Minister.
“Ethiopia, as the seat of the African Union, is helpful to facilitate [Iran’s] diplomatic relations with other [African] countries,” he added.
Ethiopian Foreign Ministe, for his part, expressed Ethiopia’s readiness to cooperate with any country based on mutual interests.
“Ethiopia’s foreign policy takes into consideration international principles based on equality and mutual benefits,” Mufti told reporters following the meeting.
Ethiopia and Iran first established diplomatic relations in 1950.
