Both journalists work for Somali Channel TV a London based Somali television and they were arrested at Banaadir Stadium main gate where they were intending to do a report an opening football match for inter-regional tournament.

Police officers of East police station in Abdulaziz neighborhood told NUSOJ that journalists have been arrested after sniffer dog suspected several times the bag in which journalists were carrying for their equipment but nothing danger or can cause harm was found but police insist that security agencies need to conduct further investigations while journalists are being kept in custody.

NUSOJ Secretary General Mohamed Moalimuu visited the arrested journalists in police station and had a chat with them, they told that they are so far being treated well by the police even though they are in jail and lost their freedom and movement.

“We condemn in the strongest terms possible the arbitrary arrest and call for Somali Security Commanders for unconditional and immediate release of the arrested two journalists.” Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu, Secretary General of the National Union of Somali Journalists said, “We are calling upon Somali security agencies to respect the media freedoms and freedom of expression.
