Muqdisho | QOL | 28 Oktoobar 2017 —The highly-talked about seminal improvement and tightening of the security situation of the capital has been disrupted by the senseless truck bombing, described by the masses as the deadliest attack in the history of the Horn of Africa nation.

The government’s grandiose plans to pacify Mogadishu fizzled out after the residents of the city witnessed this hideous deafening explosion that erupted at the epicenter of the city. The unchaste incident, whose enormity shocked Somalis in and outside the country, has been the sorrowful topic of discussion among Somalis all over the world and depicted the seamy side of life in Mogadishu.

If such huge explosion can happen, despite increased security checkpoints manned by security forces, the situation of Mogadishu is in ulcerous condition that demands immediate remedy.

As the burnt remnants of human flesh were enveloped in white shrouds and buried in mass graves, what the souls did to deserve and go through such inhumane act is still unanswered question. Those who died in the explosion (more than 300), though labelled as martyrs by Somalis, were exalted to heroic status by BRA (Benadir Regional Administration) and named Zoobe junction as 14th October in memory of the deceased.

Though the rapidity with which the government responded after the destructive explosion is truly commendable, how the country can get through these pile-ups of untimely attacks, assassinations and deadly explosions that horribly cause loss of lives and property needs visionary leadership.

The people living in Mogadishu took to the streets, mourning, yelling and hurling curses at the masterminds of the explosion, red piece of cloth (emblematical of the bloodshed in the scene) tied on their heads.

Through impulsiveness and their eyes pregnant with sorrowful tears as well as faces expressive of disgust, they also thronged into the hospitals to console, donate blood and bury the dead.

The informal youth groups that instantly emerged by mobilizing and leading charity contributions all over the world is commendable. They all had nothing to offer but blood, toil tears and sweat. It was really a sign of unity that needs to be maintained. Let unity be a pillar of strength in our community.

Enlivened by the president’s speech, many youths are determined to die for a country entangled in a web of political crisis, famine and mass killings.

Yes, we mourned and buried the dead,
Yes, we rescued the victims
Yes, we anxiously condemned the act
Yes, we protested to show our disgustful reaction to the explosion
Yes, we asked for help to treat the injured.

But what is next? Will 14th October be a like a wonder that lasted only for nine days and everything is forgotten?

As many families are experiencing terrible emptiness left by their beloved ones and friends, there are too many imponderable questions that the Somalis are asking themselves.

Many are frustrated by the impotence of the government in dealing and combating such deadly explosions thus protecting the lives of the citizens. Though less than a year old, the government is unable to combat the entrenched belief in extremism even though the expectation of the public was thrilled all over the country when President Farmaajo came to office.

How long will the laxity in the internal security come to an end? When will the security forces wake up from the lull and protect the lives of the citizens? Will the government make use of the emerged unity among the Somalis to change the security situation of the country? When shall we reap the fruition of the president’s avowed intention to lead the country into prosperity with one-man-one vote vision?

Sincerely speaking, the Federal government and the member States cannot maintain as well strengthen the security situation of the country if they talk and walk differently.

They should not allow any person or group that defaces the beauty of the capital and kills the citizens. If a portion is killed by famine, another portion by explosions and another portion die in the deep seas who will you rule?

As long as the strategies and plans for improving efficiency and security in the country continues to receive a lukewarm reception among the leaders and laggards, the situation will remain as it is. Let us put our differences aside and find solutions to the affliction of Somalis all over the world.

Always remember that “Sticks in a Bundle are Unbreakable and Individual Strands Join to Form One Fabric, Network, Business, Family and a strong nation.”
