Mogadishu | QOL | October 30, 2017 – After more than two decades of conflict and displacement, a generation of Somali children lost the opportunity for formal education and other benefits of a stable childhood. Somalia has one of the world’s lowest enrolment rates for primary school-aged children – only nearly 30 per cent of children are in school and only 10 per cent of these are girls. Further, only 18 per cent of children in rural households are in school.
Extremely high rates of poverty in communities across Somalia and continued conflict make it difficult for parents to afford school fees so they are obliged to pay the school fees, because there is no free education provided by the government. In many areas, parents are required to pay for their children’s education, and poverty remains the main reason they give for not sending their children to school. The education system in Somalia was facing a serious problems such as lack of facilities, trained teachers and shortcut systems or jumping, because every Somali citizen can establish a university without requirements; and most of the schooling system in Somalia are not enough sufficient to teach students with latest technology and the other problems is that most of the schools were found in urban cities. This makes very little reach and a significant proportion of school-age children remain out of school. there are many umbrellas which each umbrella has its own rules and regulations, policies, curriculums, academic years, student uniform, education system and certificates, It is true that they have been working hard in difficult time and I praise them, but It is a pleasure that the government is able to take public exams in the last two years which is really a step forward. As of now, there is no really organized education system in Somalia and many of the schools are run by local Businessmen or business people and international NGOs with particular interests and fulfillment of the future interest of their countries and these schools consisting of both Islamic and western and most of the private schools currently operating in Somalia especially Mogadishu city which you can see some of the districts which has more than 30 universities and more schools and all they follow to use shortcut system to register more students to get money.
This article does not mean that I am going to criticize local education because myself graduated at the local university, but I am pointing that there are problems nowadays appeared and it must be resolved now, Some activities are not included in the shortcut process because of their importance of the future like education, There is nothing worse than education It is actually a problem that we will feel in the future when students become unqualified with what they have written on their certificates or graduated.
in this article I would like to share with you many Wonderful stories including there are schools that take two classrooms per year which means that the student only takes 6 years of school life after 6 years only he will began university even he can register without secondary certificate if he can pay money there is no other requirements, It is not possible to see the 8 years old high school finished.
Also, there are universities offer 3 years or less then on a bachelor’s degree, there are also universities provide faculties of medicine and engineering for part time system it’s impossible to study part time, as you know tomorrow they will come a doctor who has graduated, but does not know how to do surgery and how to carry out medical operations and then they will kill many people, they also produce people who do not know how to build and then house will collapse within 5 years, They also produce an accountant who loses our national property.
Problems are more complicated for the today’s jump or using shortcut systems for our education so be avoid that because it paralyzing future education and recovering of the country. Do not use the education for your particular interests or interests and you have to think about the future of this nation, it is accountable to you in the near future.
