Nairobi – Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre of Somalia is set to embark on his inaugural official visit to Kenya next month, as confirmed by Kenya’s Foreign Secretary Korir SingOei. The visit marks an important step in strengthening bilateral ties between the two neighboring nations.
During a meeting with a delegation from the Prime Minister’s office, Foreign Cabinet Secretary Principal Secretary, Kenya Singoei highlighted the longstanding cooperation between Kenya and Somalia, emphasizing their shared commitment to enhancing regional stability and fostering prosperity for their respective citizens.
“This visit underscores the strong and positive relationship between Kenya and Somalia. We are committed to working together for the common prosperity of our people,” stated Foreign PS Secretary Singoei.
Prime Minister Hamze’s visit to Nairobi will be his first since assuming office on June 25, 2022. The agenda for the visit is focused on reviewing and enhancing cooperation across various sectors, including joint security and defense efforts, aviation, trade and investment, as well as initiatives aimed at improving social services and higher education standards in both countries.
Of particular note is the upcoming trade agreement between Kenya and Somalia regarding the export of khat. Kenya’s Minister of Agriculture recently announced that a new trade agreement is set to be finalized in May, highlighting the ongoing efforts to strengthen economic ties and promote mutually beneficial trade between the two nations.
