Somalia and Canada agree to boost bilateral ties

Mogadisho | QOL | May 21, 2020  – The Governments of Somalia and Canada have agreed to strengthen their diplomatic ties on Thursday.

Mogadishu and Ottawa decided the move to further cement their diplomatic engagement during teleconference between the Foreign Minister of Somalia, Ambassador Ahmed Isse Awad and the Canadian Minister for International Development, Karina Gould.

 

During the high level discussions ambassador Awad briefed his counterpart on Federal Government ongoing response on the prevention of Coronavirus in the country.

 

On her side, the Canadian minister assured the North American state support for the horn of the African nation through multilateral agencies.

 

“Hon Gould briefed me on Canadian support to Somalia through multilateral agencies. I briefed her on FGS response to #COVID19. We agreed to further strengthen our bilateral relations.” Somali Foreign Minister said in a tweet.
Canada’s humanitarian assistance to Somalia is channellechanneledUN agencies and non-governmental organizations.

 

The help includes life-saving relief such as food, water and sanitation, medical and nutritional support, emergency shelter, and protection.
