Mogadisho  –-2020—President of Somalia, Mohamed Abdilahi Farmajo and the leader of self-declared state of Somaliland Musa Bihi Abdi have on Tuesday afternoon met in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital.

The first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders was held at the office of the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed who was said to have facilitated the meeting.

Farmajo and Bihi were not accompanied by members of their delegations during the meeting.

The details of the meetings were not released and the media is kept in the dark.

The Somalia president is in Addis Ababa for the African Summit there, while president Bihi was invited to lobby the world leaders participating the summit.

Talks between Somalia and Somaliland were postponed on several occasions after attempts to bring the two presidents to a meeting did not materialize.

Somaliland declared its independence in May of 1991, after a brutal civil war in the country.

Somalia contests that Somaliland is still part of Somalia, and has in the past blocked all efforts in its quest for independence.
